Workshops for Education

School Workshops

Afriquetone works with schools to deliver African drumming workshops to children of various ages. It has delivered numerous drumming workshops to different schools and community centers across Scotland. Most of these workshops have been one day events, whereby children are given the experience of African drumming and percussion. Our Workshops are an ideal activity, that meet the requirements for the 'Curriculum of Excellence' - view our presentation to find out how.

Getting Started

Workshops start by getting the children to do a few stretching exercises to relax the muscles of the arms. Then a description of the drums and percussion that will be used is given.

Following on, the children are introduced to hand drumming techniques in a way they can relate to (Stories and games are normally used)

Finally, they get to make up different rhythms under our supervision and guidance. So far, this has been a fun experience for the children and their teachers.

Testimonials

"It was an excellent evening where all the girls were novices at African Drumming and therefore had to contribute an equal amount of effort to get a good team result. It was a fun evening for all and it set us up well to compete at our Inter District Tournament as it helped cement the team ethic we were seeking, I certainly would recommend it to anyone."

Sandy Keith, North District U16 Girls Hockey Coach
